Telesure moving from satellite to open air

Hemispheric TV network Telesur is no longer a cable channel. It will be an open air channel starting the beginning of February. It will have a sports channel too.

Catholic Church to help stop violence

Monsignor José Luis Azuaje, who is a member of the Venezuelan Bishops' Conference and chair of Caritas Venezuela, announced that hey are launching a campaign called Sharing 2007. The campaign's intention is to come up with strategies to help stem the daily violence in Venezuela.

Real estate prices predicted to jump 35% by 2006 end

Luis Emilio Vega, the head of the Real Estate Chamber, predicted that Venezuelan real estate prices would go up 35-percent by the end of 2006. Demand was growing faster than supply, so prices would be higher than inflation.

Health Ministry plans to keep private health centers private

Hugo Chavez's ongoing plans to completely socialize Venezuela have met some resistance. The Health Ministry does not plan to nationalize the private health centers. The Ministry finds the idea absurd and will continue to focus on public health care.

Venezuela needs more non-oil exports

At first look the Venezuelan economy is doing quite well. After all the last 13 quarters have been exceptional. But non-oil exports have been practically non-existent in the same period. And Venezuela needs that if it's going to sustain long-term economic stability.

London enters deal with Venezuela

London Mayor Ken Livingstone initialed a deal with Hugo Chavez whereby Caracas is selling fuel for London buses at a 20-percent discount. This deal has angered many in the United Kingdom.

Chavez socializing all education

The third part of Hugo Chavez's revolution rolled out at the end of February. This part had to do with education. Chavez doesn't want his people to be afraid of these changes and plans the Venezuelan education program to instill equality, unity and solidarity. Venezuela's program is going to be based on Cuba's.

Reporters without Borders ordered to pay fine

Hugo Chavez controls the newspapers and news stations. There is no free press in Venezuela. So when Reporters without Borders received a fine, they feared it was just a political punishment. An open letter to Chavez's daughter was published in what was meant as a humorous tone. Chavez apparently didn't appreciate it and levied the fine. RWB knows that no crime has been committed but undoubtedly will pay the fine.

US$ to be used to boost agriculture

Hugo Chavez will be using reserves of US$7billion to fund agriculture. To boost economic growth there are a number of projects that Chavez will use the money for in addition to agriculture.
